Skynet Solutions Celebrates Earth Day with E-Waste Recycling and Reusing Program

Celebrate this Earth Day with us by recycling and reusing e-waste to promote a better community and a safe environment! BROKEN ARROW (April 21, 2015) In honor of Earth Day, Skynet Solutions is asking customers to join the company in its efforts to reduce the generation of e-waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. For three days, April 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, Skynet Solutions will be performing free disc resurfacing along with computer and monitor recycling. Celebrate this Earth Day with us by recycling and reusing e-waste to promote a better community and a safe environment! Electronic waste, or “E-Waste” is a term used to describe any electronic device that is outdated, obsolete, broken, donated, discarded, or at the end of its useful life. This includes cell phones, computers, laptops, PDAs, monitors, televisions, printers, scanners, and many other electrical devices. With the rapid expansion of technology, combined with the relatively short shelf life of many present day electronic devices, more and more e-waste is generated each year. Often, these discarded devices end up in landfills or are incinerated, which can cause major environmental problems in our communities. Skynet Solutions is doing our part to reduce the amount of e-waste in Broken Arrow. Our e-waste reuse program will allow customers to have their old discs (DVD/CD/BluRay) resurfaced free of charge during the three day Earth Day promotion in an effort to reuse still functioning electronic equipment. Old, scratched discs do not always have to end up in the trash. A good resurfacing from Skynet Solutions could make that disc reusable again. The e-waste drop-off program will make it easy for businesses and individuals to make sure that their computer and monitor electronics are properly disposed of in a way that is convenient and safe for the environment. We can take old computers and monitors off your hands to make sure that useable parts are not wasted and that hazardous materials are not contaminating the environment. Skynet Solutions would also like to remind customers that by donating or selling still functional old computer equipment to someone who can use it is an excellent way to ensure their e-waste does not end up in a landfill. Donations of used equipment to someone in need will also help improve the community. We encourage you to collect all of your old discs and computer electronics and take them to Skynet Solutions’ Repair Division facility located in the Washington Square Shopping Center at 1921 S. Elm Pl., Broken Arrow, OK 74012 to make sure they are properly handled. For questions or more information, please contact a knowledgeable representative from Skynet Solutions at 918-895-1982. Skynet Solutions is proud to partner with all Earth Day efforts this year to make recycling and reusing e-waste easy for you!

Is Your Website Prepared for Mobilegeddon?

The 21st of April is fast approaching! What’s being dubbed across the internet as Google’s “Mobilegeddon” isn’t just any old doomsday device or scare tactic. Ready or not, it’s coming!

Basically, if you don’t already have a mobile-friendly website then you’ll need one and sooner rather then later. Beginning on Tuesday, April 21st, Google will begin rolling out their search algorithm update which they say will have a significant impact on search results for mobile users. Ultimately, they just want to give mobile users the best online experience possible without all the small text, the long load times, the pinching and the grabbing.

In essence, if your website is not considered “mobile-friendly”, there is a real possibility that Google will start to send you fewer mobile search customers after their update. Typically, webmasters see about 30-50% of all traffic, across all client websites, come from mobile devices. And no one wants to see that kind of drop in the amount of customers visiting their site. For the past few years, Google has spent a lot of effort pushing everyone to go mobile. So if you haven’t made the leap to a mobile compatible site yet, this announcement should be your wake up call.

The date is set and the world wide web for mobile users and business owners alike is about to change, but it’s not going to be the end of the world as long as your website is prepared. The best way to ensure that you’re ready when the horsemen of the mobile-apocalypse arrive is to have a responsive website. This type of site only has one domain, rather then a separate one for desktop and mobile, and the design of a responsive website will reformat to fit the screen on which it is being viewed, regardless of whether it’s a desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile device. Current statistics show that mobile-friendly sites have much better conversion rates. They tend to load faster then their desktop counterparts and their ease of navigability offers a better mobile user experience.

Preparedness of this measure, however, isn’t always a quick fix. Unfortunately, responsive websites take time to design, develop, implement, and test. Thankfully the knowledgeable professionals at Skynet Solutions will guide you through the process and help your business build a website that not only makes mobile users (and Google) happy but also maintains your ability to fit well into the future of ecommerce. For more information on how Skynet Solutions can help prepare your website for “Mobilegeddon”, contact us at 918-895-1982.

Website Launch – Midwest Logistics

We’re proud to announce the launch of yet another successful website. This time it’s a redesign of the Midwest Logistics website with the addition of a wholesale portal (also known as the Virtual Warehouse) in which customers can place orders for supplements to sell at their own stores.

We spiced up their previously existing website with more modern design elements and better navigation. But the biggest change was in business functionality with the addition of an entire login and eCommerce system for the virtual warehouse.

Go check out the new website at www.midwest-logistics.com!

The Pitfalls of DIY Web Design Services

This is the age of the easy web presence. With a little research and a small budget, it’s not difficult at all to get a website. However Easy =/= Good. Let’s just face it. We like to think we’re good at everything, but we just aren’t. When you use a service like Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress, you’ll be online fast. That’s true. But there’s so much more you can get out of a website by using a professional web design/development firm rather than hastily throwing up a generic template site. A good firm will have multiple professionals with different skills working on your web presence. To name a few of those skills:

1. User Experience – We don’t often think about how things flow. We take it for granted. Having someone who thinks about the amount of clicks it takes to buy a product or the size of links on a mobile site (to name two of a million things associated with user interfaces) can make a huge difference in conversions and traffic on your site.

2. Graphic Design – Most of these DIY sites offer simple templates. While easy to use, they just don’t stand out in a crowd. A skilled graphic designer will make your website beautiful and give it its own unique flair, making it memorable and functional.

3. Copywriting – Words matter. A web design firm will make sure your site’s content is concise, keyword-rich, and tailored specifically for your target demographic. Well written copy always leaves an impression.

4. Development/Programming – Another problem with template sites is the restricted functionality. Not everything is covered by plugins and modules on these DIY websites. Chances are, a good developer will be able to bring anything you think of to life. A dedicated programmer can bring your site beyond the basics and make sure it works every time.

5. Marketing – So you have a website up on squarespace and your business is off the ground! So why aren’t you making any sales? Your site needs to be optimized for search engines and your url needs to be broadcast out there for people to see! Without a marketing professional, that new site that you’re so proud of my never be seen by anyone other than you.

Play it safe. If you’re serious about your business, use a web design/development firm. Don’t fall to the alluring price point of DIY web services. This post is a paraphrased reblog of this article by Jess DelBalzo on news360.com
