Google My Business Provides New Post Feature

Facebook
Twitter
Reddit
LinkedIn

Google has recently started providing a new feature to users of Google My Business and although your profile may not have it yet, the change is likely on the way. Access to the experimental service has been initially provided through invite only but Google is hoping to expand this feature to more businesses over time. If you currently have access to the service, it will be found in your Google My Business account under “Manage Location”.

How Do Google Posts Work?

Now that Google Posts have been ported over to Google My Business, any posts that are created will be prominently displayed with search results for your business. Currently, any posts that are made will appear beneath your Google My Business listing to the right of existing search results. In general, posts are allowed an image, call to action and between 100 to 300 words. In our tests with finding the right amount of content, we found that less is more when dealing with the new post feature because any excess text will be cut off unless the post is expanded. Currently, the button types available include Learn More, Reserve, Sign Up, Buy or Get Offer. Each of these buttons can redirect to a manually entered URL of your choice. Created posts can also be used for event listings that include both the date and time.

How Can I Make the Most of Google Posts?

It is important to remember that each post created will be affixed to your Google My Business listing for a period of one week. For this reason, the functionality is most suited for upcoming sales, the addition of a new product or service, event promotion, product sales or newsletter growth. The button choices make providing a call to action incredibly simple and intuitive to do this. Simply create a short description for your posts, add a relevant image for impact and utilize one of the existing call to action buttons to make the most impact. However, overuse of the post feature will likely clog up your Google My Business listing and the feature should only be used tastefully. As feature continues to be added to more accounts, it will be interesting to see the creative strategies employed by other business owners.
